I have been sewing since I was a kid. Back then clothes were expensive, so making your own clothes saved money. Then clothes got cheap, but the fabrics were still pretty good. I started sewing a lot more a few years ago when I went to buy a new winter coat. Everything was expensive and the fabrics were awful- $500 for a 80/20 wool nylon blend? No thank you. Took a coat making class at Treadle Yard Goods in St Paul and have not looked back! I love working with wool and cotton (all weights & weaves), and linen!! Anything stretch still scares me though.
